With our support, and in collaboration with @ezemvelokznwildlife, Wildlife ACT successfully collared a young male cheetah on Hluhluwe-iMfolozi Park.
This male, identified as CM28, forms part of a coalition with two other male Cheetahs and rejoined them immediately after the successful deployment of the tracking device.
Tracking collars, such as the ceres – AFVHF fitted to this individual are vital for endangered and priority species conservation, allowing the Wildlife ACT team to monitor their movements, habitat use, and behaviour in real-time. These collars help to identify and respond to threats promptly and the information gathered from them is vital for informed management decisions and to promote genetic diversity of this iconic species.
Being part of a coalition, CM28 will stay in close proximity to his two companions, allowing the Wildlife ACT monitoring teams to keep informed of their movements until they are also able to be collared.
