The Forever Wild Foundation is ready, collar in hand, for CF38, a 22-month-old cheetah who recently dispersed from her mother, and the race is on to collar this young female. It’s crucial to gather data on her hunting success and her potential contribution to the population. After being spotted by a Hluhluwe-iMfolozi Park guest, the Wildlife ACT team sprang into action, racing against time to locate her.
With some nifty driving, they rushed to get a visual and hopefully collar her, but by the time they arrived, she was moving into thick bush and quickly vanished from sight. However, the team managed to capture a quick video of her, and she looked healthy, which is a promising sign that she is thriving and able to hunt on her own.
But the chase isn’t over! The monitoring team is on high alert, ready to respond to any sightings of CF38 in the coming weeks. Fingers crossed, they’ll get another chance to collar her and track her journey.
