Cheetah monitoring at UmPhafa Nature Reserve

In February 2025, Gareth, Wildlife ACT Senior Field Technician, visited UmPhafa Nature Reserve to assist with post-release monitoring for a newly introduced cheetah.

This critical monitoring is essential to ensure the cheetah adapts well to her new environment. Cheetahs often test the boundaries of a reserve, and it’s important to track their movements to ensure they remain within the area and settle in successfully.

According to Gareth, “She is settling in well and has made two kills in the past six days. She is in great condition.”

We wish UmPhafa Nature Reserve all the best with its new introduction.
